One man, one server, the whole country arguing.

Seun Osewa installed a copy of Simple Machines Forum in March 2005 and opened it to the public later that month. Nairaland became the place Nigerians went to argue, sell, job-hunt, fall in love and break news — a single undesigned white page that outlived every startup built to replace it. Its green links and Tahoma body text have survived twenty years almost untouched.

On the record

  • Launched March 2005 by Seun Osewa, then 22, using off-the-shelf forum software.
  • Link colour has been the same dark green — #185518 — for most of its life.
  • Front page still reports live: members, topics, and how many guests were online in the last five minutes.
